This Privacy Policy describes how Nishaan Tech ("we," "us," or "our") handles information in connection with BrightMinds — a learning application designed for children aged 5–10 years.

We are deeply committed to protecting the privacy of children. BrightMinds is built from the ground up with privacy by design: no personal data leaves the device, no accounts are required, and all learning data stays local.

By downloading or using BrightMinds, parents and guardians confirm they have read and agree to this Privacy Policy.

📋

1. Information We Collect

🛡️ BrightMinds does not collect, transmit, or store any personally identifiable information (PII) on external servers.

The app stores the following data locally on your device only:

  • Child's first name (entered voluntarily during setup, stored locally)
  • Selected avatar and app theme preference
  • Quiz scores, XP points, level, and badges earned
  • Daily challenge completion history and streak count
  • Chapter and set progress across all subjects

None of this data is linked to any real-world identity or transmitted to Nishaan Tech's servers.

👦

2. Children's Privacy (COPPA)

BrightMinds is directed at children under the age of 13. We fully comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and applicable data protection laws.

Our Child-First Commitments

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The app does not require registration, login, email, or phone number. Parental consent is obtained before the child begins using the app.

A Parent/Guardian Consent screen is shown before first use, requiring a parent to confirm their identity through a simple math verification. Parents may contact us at any time to review or delete any locally stored data by uninstalling the app.

⚙️

3. How We Use Information

The locally stored data is used solely to:

  • Display the child's name and avatar for a personalized experience
  • Track learning progress across subjects and chapters
  • Calculate XP, levels, streaks, and badges to motivate daily practice
  • Show parents a progress summary through the Parent Dashboard
  • Remember theme and avatar preferences between app sessions

We do not use this information for advertising, profiling, behavioral analysis, or any commercial purpose.

📊

4. Optional Anonymous Analytics

During the consent flow, parents are given the option to allow anonymous, aggregated usage analytics to help us improve the app. This is entirely optional and can be declined without affecting any functionality.

If enabled, this analytics data:

  • Contains no personally identifiable information
  • Includes only aggregate counts (e.g., how many users complete a chapter)
  • Is never linked to a specific child, device, or household
  • Is used only to identify bugs and improve question quality
Parents who initially opt-in can opt-out at any time by uninstalling the app or contacting us at nitinsameer@gmail.com.
🔒

5. Data Sharing & Third Parties

We do not sell, rent, trade, or share any user data with third parties. Specifically:

  • No advertising networks or ad SDKs are integrated into the app
  • No social media sharing or social login features are present
  • No third-party analytics SDKs that collect PII are used
  • No in-app purchases or payment processors are integrated

The only exception would be if we are legally required to disclose information by applicable law or valid legal process, which is extremely unlikely given that we hold no personal data.

🛡️

6. Data Storage & Security

All progress data is stored exclusively in the device's local storage (SharedPreferences / local database). This means:

  • Data is stored on your device and does not travel over the internet
  • Uninstalling the app permanently deletes all locally stored data
  • No cloud backup or sync of learning data occurs
  • Data is protected by the device's own security (PIN, biometrics, etc.)

The AI hint feature operates fully offline using an on-device model — no question or answer data is sent to any server.

👨‍👩‍👧

7. Parental Rights & Controls

As a parent or guardian, you have full control over your child's data:

  • Access: The Parent Dashboard (accessible after a math-based verification) shows all stored progress data
  • Delete: Use the "Reset All Progress" button inside the Parent Dashboard to wipe all stored data, or simply uninstall the app
  • Opt-out: Analytics consent can be withdrawn at any time by contacting us
  • Inquire: Email us at nitinsameer@gmail.com with any questions about data handling
📱

8. App Permissions

BrightMinds requests only the minimum permissions necessary to function. The app does not request access to:

  • Camera, microphone, or location
  • Contacts, call logs, or SMS
  • Photos, files, or external storage
  • Bluetooth or nearby devices

The only device resource used is local storage to save progress data, which requires no special permission on modern Android versions.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or applicable law. When we do:

  • We will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page
  • Significant changes will be communicated via an in-app notice
  • Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy

We encourage parents to review this policy periodically. The most current version is always available within the app under Profile → Privacy Policy.

⚖️

10. Governing Law

This Privacy Policy is governed by the laws of India. By using BrightMinds, you agree that any disputes relating to this policy will be subject to the jurisdiction of courts in India.

We also strive to comply with international privacy regulations including COPPA (United States), GDPR (European Union), and DPDP Act 2023 (India) where applicable.
